Austin institution that has been around forever. I'm giving this 5 stars on the strength of the burger and those wonderful fries.  The fries are as good as it gets. Lightly battered with seasoning and a dipping sauce that just won't quit.

The burger was perfect. Super juicy, melted cheese, grilled onions, special sauce and a wonderfully toasted bun. Just perfect.

    Service was great.

We came here for brunch (with reservations) and had a lovely time with our service, the quality of the food, and basically everything else. I just wanted to write this review because though the menu claims there are vegan/vegetarian options, there really are very few. For entrees, there is only one vegan option (cauliflower steak). Otherwise, you can make a "medley" of sides or choose a salad.

While I'm not one to harp on this (I'm not even a vegan, I just can't have dairy), I feel like it's unfriendly to have a menu that doesn't serve a large/growing population of people, especially in Austin. I know folks will get on me about how there are so many other restaurants around where vegans can eat, but Hyde Park B&G is one of the longer-standing institutions in the neighborhood and I'd prefer that they have people come and eat there, and that it stays standing, by expanding their menu just a bit.

Since I see management responding to reviews here on Yelp, I hope they see this and take notice, and hopefully add a few more items to the menu to draw in a bigger crowd.

This places has a home vibe to it in cute Hyde park. I went for brunch and had chicken and waffles, migas, banana pancakes, and had to try the famous fries.

Fries were GOOD. Wasn't crazy about the sauce it came with wish it was just ranch. Migas was mostly beans on the plate but good. Chicken and waffles was huge and had a good mis of Hot sauce and maple syrup.

Banana pancake was good! Fluffy and cooked well. Overall I would return the menu is huge and looks like they always have dinner specials.

This place is a 3 at best, honestly a solid 2. I got chicken fried chicken with potatoes and mac & cheese. Pretty disappointed. The chicken was very tough and 75% of it was breading and not meat. The mashed potatoes were solid & couldn't be mad at them. The mac & cheese was beyond mediocre, looked nothing like other yelp review photos, but like a watered down velveeta. Overpriced for the disappointment, if it were delicious it would've been worth my money. Will most likely never return.

Neighborhood restaurant with unpretentious brunch menu. Gotta love that! The building is dated but I think that adds to it's charm. The wait staff is super friendly and accommodating. The menu is straight forward and breakfasts are cheap! My eggs Benedict were satisfying and they came with a side of country potatoes that were delicious!

The best part has to be the $3 mimosas and bloody Mary's! Keep 'em coming, please! (They do, don't worry).

*Pro tip: There is parking behind the restaurant and some parking right in front.
